ANTENNAE
X2 Compound eyes which consists of tiny tubes called Ommatidae (Light sensing cells)
The antennae normally has 21 segments. The Scape is mounted into a socket that allows the insect to move the antennae. The 2nd segment is called the Pedicle which detects motion. This also contains the Johnson's organ. The remaining segments of the antennae are called Flagellomias. The antennae are covered with small hairs which are called Sensory Setae. This helps the insect locate it's surroundings.
At the top of the female head (Conical Occiput) a cluster of thorny spines are for protection

X2  Filiform antennae
X2  Compound eyes
3 small simple eyes are located on top of the head  just behind the antenna. These are called Ocelli and used as detectors and enable the insect to make directional corrections during flight. This mostly applies to the male.
